Why does Google still use paging instead of progressive loading?

As a designer I believe "Page system" is less efficient than progressive loading inside a single page. But it is still widely used one many websites including google search results.

Maybe there is an important advantage of the paginationsystem that I am missing.

Can you help me to figure out why is it still commonly used ?
