Where to start when I’m the solo product designer in the company? [on hold]

I just got hired as the solo product designer in the startup. The logo and the whole brand need to change but that will take time and also we will hire an agency for the branding and the marketing stuff. I was wondering if it's ok to start right away with the research and redesigning the product without focusing on the brand itself. What is the best way to start?
