What’s the best way of presenting list of conversations (discussions) that the user can choose to take part in?

The discussions are a cross between a reddit post, and a Whatsapp group chat. I'm confused about how to show list of all conversations going on?

Here's my default look (which is just a simple listview).

It shows a uniquely generated icon, the conversation title, and the first two people who took part in the conversation.

I'm wondering what kind of layout would be good to have a good amount of information, but also simple enough that people would want to click on it and start chatting immediately.

There's the official Android apps of Gmail and Reddit, which are both different, and I don't exactly know which to go with, or if something else is better.
