What’s the best position for navigation?

A lot of website are using top navigation with logo on left and navigation menu on right side like:

That's an example of a mockup of the website I would like to build. I find the top navigation so empty like that... Actually, the logo is alone on the left and I think there should be more.

What about a menu like that? I didn't see a website using this kind of navigation yet, but do you think it's great for user experience?

Also there will be something written in the middle of the screen or bottom like my name and other minimal informations.
