The dillemma about the usability of Waze [on hold]

Waze is one of the most praised and widely used navigation apps for drivers in my city. I have done a usability test of the Waze mobile app with drivers both new to the app and familiar with the app. Most drivers find it hard to navigate through the app and find the features such as adding a stop, sharing location and etc hard to find, even with familiar users. while most navigation apps like Sygic and google maps try to keep the interface and interactions very simple and minimal, Waze seems that it has chosen a different path.

What is your insight about the waze approach that seems they deliberately chose to not simplify their navigation flow?
