Map UI/UX toggle and search

I have a map that shows POIs. POIs are classified by only 5 types (A,B,C,D,E). The user can toggle the POIs on/off by types. Can anyone share their opinion or suggestion how I can improve this. Because it looks underwhelming. The purpose of having 2 bars with the controls for items in the map is that so user can easily access these buttons with their left and right hand holding the device in portrait/landscape.

I also happen to have a search function. But for example if type As are not enabled/showing on the map. Then the user selects the search result POI with type A on search (POIs should be focused on the map when selecting search result) should I toggle the type A button on the left side or just show this single POI A?\
