macOS column view UX

I have to design a deep hierarchy view (which I am against, but I need to show the customers as to why I am against it).

I would like to keep in mind that there is a possibility where there would be no way around it. So, in case that possibility arrives, I want to go with the one that has the best usability.

One of the considerations was the column view that MacOS has in the finder. Shown below for reference:

I don't want a discussion on the topic or make this a opinionated question so here's me narrowing down the possibilities.

From a UX point-of-view, hiding non-contextual and non-required information is preferred. So, is the column view in MacOS good or bad?
