Junior designer asks for tips for modernizing legacy database [on hold]

I'm working on my first big job; modernizing a legacy database of historical artifacts. The original one is on Microsoft Access and has about a hundred fields per entry split up over 8 sections.

What are some good resources one should use to get inspiration for best practice re: the info architecture and best practice for modern form design. Needless to say, I will be talking to users and employing tools like card-sorting. I'm asking more for non-user resources.

Thanks guys.
