Is moving to ‘user-generated content’ the best strategy in a non-social and almost-educational sector products?

A product is trying to teach/bring-into-practice the best practices, advice and solutions about a particular topic. Is it really a good idea for such products to move to user-generated content on their platform?

How does one make sure the trust and learning involved with the content on this product is maintained even when the content becomes user-generated?

I am currently trying to get negative and positive insights from platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest. How would the transition towards completely user-generated content from no user-generated content be like?

Also does the logic of experts doing the work they are good at and not every person can contribute to best practices & trustworthy information hold true (take example of the series Newsroom & the philosophical battle in it)?
