Interactive web design (and developer’s conventions)

I’m gathering information for a research project on this topic to help a team whose experience is relatively lacking. Any recommendations for how to get started on programming for an adequately high-fidelity interactive web design?

What are the standards to follow in developing a strong interactive website? I’d also like to know if you have any information on developer’s cons or boot camps/similar events, if you have any links to those.
