Do you have a different UX and UI team where you work? I’d like to know responsibilities and processes! [on hold]

I work for a company that has a very staunch boundary between the UX and UI designers. I'm having a little bit of an identity crisis with the role of "UI Designer" not being what I thought it would be. My general understanding was that there was some research, some collaboration involved. But it's turning out to be more of UX designers saying "Jump!" and UI says "How high?".

Did I miss something?

So, if you are a part of a similar setup, I'd love to know what are things UX and UI do on a day to day basis, what are the hand off materials, what processes do you follow, and how is your team structured?
